Becoming a Horse-Based Wilderness Guide
Become a guide by joining one of the Wilderness Guide Programs. You will be taught everything you need to be a professional tourism guide, through the different course modules, living on a ranch and participating in the wilderness tourism business.
The wilderness training program combines theoretical and practical training. Each training objective is achieved under guided supervision and time is allocated for individual practice and study.
The first half of the program is based at a ranch, where theoretical and practical training is provided in a controlled environment. The last half of wilderness training is spent in wilderness base camps where you have first-hand experience and apply newly learned skills to the “real thing”.
Opening the Door
After successful completion of the program, graduates may be offered an internship at the ranch. Graduates are not guaranteed employment, but may be hired by us later as a licensed Assistant Guide or in other positions. Another option for graduates and interns is to be referred by us to national and international associates, operating as guide outfitters, guest ranches, fishing lodges and even governmental associations.
The Wilderness Training Guide Program provides short but intense training. Students learn a wide range of skills and knowledge in a short period of time in an authentic wilderness ranch environment. Courses can be taken separately or in combination. This allows students to customize their training based on experience, schedule, financial situation and personal interests. All programs are recognized within the BC outfitter industry.
Opening this door will not only give access to guiding. It can give access to opportunities at the ranch, where it’s only your imagination and effort that sets the limits.
